This Year’s Essential Summer Reading List
San Diego, CA (March 30, 2015) – The world of comics gathered this past weekend at Seattle’s Emerald City Comicon 2015 where IDW Publishing took the stage to reveal an impressive array of projects that are coming this summer! Mark your calendars because July is going to be EPIC!
Onyx
Chris Ryall and Gabriel Rodriguez, the award-winning creators of series such as Locke & Key and Zombies vs. Robots are releasing their first co-creation, Onyx, this July.
Onyx tells the tale of a female metal-suited warrior who comes to Earth on a quest to either save the planet or destroy it. It’s up to a team of super-soldiers to figure out which before it’s too late, and before a much greater threat overwhelms both them and the planet itself.
Look for the standalone 5-page story, Onyx #0, that will be included as a free bonus story in many of IDW’s May titles.
The Shrinking Man
Also coming this July is the comic-book adaption of the late Richard Matheson’s seminal science fiction novel, The Shrinking Man. Ted Adams, IDW’s CEO & Publisher, is adapting the material, alongside artist Mark Torres.
This legendary tale chronicles the events of an average family man, Scott Carey, who, after being exposed to a mysterious cloud, comes to the frightening realization that he is shrinking slowly day-by-day is being brought to vivid life in this 4-issue series.
String Divers
Acclaimed artist/designer Ashley Wood will launch his latest comic-book project at IDW this summer with String Divers, a comic series written by Wood’s Zombies vs. Robots co-creator Chris Ryall, features stunning artwork by Nelson Daniel. Spun out of Wood’s 3A Toys’ line of titular figures, String Divers incorporates string theory as threats to our universe at the sub-microscopic level have dire and lasting repercussions in our universe and across all dimensions.
Godzilla in Hell
Godzilla is plummeted to the deepest, darkest bowels of the infernal kingdom in the five-issue miniseries, Godzilla in Hell. This July the mystery of what led to Godzilla’s damnation, and what it will face, will take readers on a dark and twisted journey unlike any Godzilla story! A rotating creative team will each take Godzilla through a new layers of Hell, beginning with writer/artist James Stokoe with successive issues by Bob Eggleton; Dave Wachter; Ulises Farinas; Erick Freitas; and Brandon Seifert, with artists to be announced at a later time.
EC Comics Cover Month
July is officially IDW’s “EC Comics cover month!” A dozen IDW titles are getting a variant cover that pays tribute to the classic EC Comics cover designs from the 1950s. Your checklist is here!

Kevin Eastman Exclusive
IDW Publishing has entered an exclusive deal with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman, which will see new projects and further involvement exclusively with IDW.
Eastman will join the staff of IDW in their newly announced move to San Diego’s historic Liberty Station NTC offices with an office on-site, and his original works will be mark the inaugural exhibition of the San Diego Comic Art Gallery.
Other exciting comic series announcements made during the week were The X-Files: Season 11 with Twentieth Century Fox Entertainment and Ghostbusters: Get Real with Sony Pictures Entertainment.
