I’m one of the late comers to this line. I’ve been watching the Imaginext DC product for a while. Some lines a take a while for me to get into. I did not bite on JL Animated until Hawkgirl and Ultra Humanite were added to the line. For Imaginext, the Superman / Krypto pack made me take notice. It was the Justice League stuff at Target which really grabbed my attention. The Javelin ship has several times almost become a purchase. For a while, my trips to Walmart left me confused as to where this cool Justice League stuff was. A recent trip to Target cleared up the issue that some product is exclusive to Target, including a new Green Arrow figure.
Imaginext Green Arrow
After 5 days of reveals here at AFi, I could very shortly have an Imaginext Justice League consisting of:
- Batman
- Robin
- Superman
- Wonder Woman
- Flash
- Green Lantern
- Aquaman
- Hawkman
- Cyborg
- Red Tornado
- Blue Beetle
- Martian Manhunter
- Plastic Man
- Kilowog – if I chase down the GL based stuff.
I’m a pattern guy. I look for patterns in everything. It helps in my job as a computer systems analyst and programmer. For toys, it makes me try to predict what could come next in toy lines. I ask the questions of “What is the inspiration?” “What (or who) is missing?” “Why did they make character X?” and “Does that mean they will make character Y next?”
For the DC Imaginext lines, I get the following answers.
Batman stuff sells. That is why the line started with Batman and has expanded from there. But which Batman? IMO, the villains we’ve seen are those most frequently used in areas outside the comics. Batman the Animated Series, The Batman, Batman Brave and Bold, the various Batman movies of the 90s and today, even the Batman TV show from the 60′s. So I think we can more Batman villains. The key is how much exposure do they have. There are also some noticeably missing Bat allies:
- Nightwing
- Batgirl
- Red Hood
- Red Robin
Superman stuff also sells. Beyond the Superman movie stuff, we have seen Brainiac in his Superman the Animated Series design. More Superman characters.
Superman Family
- Supergirl
- Steel
- Metallo
- Parasite
Batman the Brave and the Bold. Its the one show that features Blue Beetle, Plastic Man and Red Tornado in modern times. It also repeatedly featured a few other heroes. If the Imaginext team is looking at this show we might get:
Batman Brave and Bold
- Shazam
- Firestorm
- Booster Gold
- Dr Fate!
Some crazy villains. Grodd’s design is almost straight from this show.
Robin and Cyborg together to me equals the Teen Titans / Teen Titans Go shows. While concentrating on 5 characters, occasionally we were treated to other teen heroes. If they are able, there are some easy pickings here:
Teen Titans
- Beast Boy – why is this character not part of the line already?
- Kid Flash
- Speedy
- Aqualad
Conversely, Robin, Blue Beetle and Black Manta seems to be Young Justice. Which could give us a bounty characters, for starters:
Young Justice
- Kid Flash
- Aqualad
- Superboy
- Static – do I dare dream this?
Running along with YJ was the Green Lantern animated series. We have Green Lantern and Kilowog and Ch’p, but they could give us:
- Red Lantern Razor
- Blue Lantern Saint Walker
- Aya the robotic AI of the ship.
Finally, the Justice League / JL Unlimited animated series had a few stars we do not have yet:
Green Lantern John Stewart
Hawkgirl
the Question
- Green Lantern John Stewart
- Hawkgirl
- the Question
I think that is enough from me postulating what might be in the line. Its your turn. Below, in no special order, list the top 5 DC characters you would most like to see in the DC Imaginext line. Batman, Superman, Justice League or not, it doesn’t matter. After this Imaginext Reveal Week, we know Fischer Price is listening. Its time to tell them who you want in the line.
Many of the images here credit goes to Worlds Finest, one of my other favorites sites.
