Justice League Unlimited – Shazam and an Ace in the Hole

Box 7 in our brick of Justice League Unlimited HeroClix brings us 3 new pieces.  Superman (common), Shazam(common), Cheetah (common), Superman Justice Lords (uncommon) and Ace of the Royal Flush Gang, our 2nd Super Rare of the set.

Superman and Lords Superman we have seen already.  The thing is, I’m not disappointed to see them again.  Supes is someone everyone knows and an easy give to a new or prospective new player.  Lords Superman has that second starting line of 10 points.  You can easily play both copies we have on the same team and still feel it is thematic.

Ace is the most exciting pull here.  Its always exciting to pull a Super Rare.  My first thought goes back to the Joker figure we pulled and how they would go nicely together.  And you can because they share the Gotham City Underworld keyword.  But the sad thing is the rest of the Royal Flush Gang is not in this set.  No King, no Queen, no Jack, no Ten.  This piece while it includes a special power “drive you insane” which could represent Ace during that episode with the Joker Bombs, it also has a power called “Batman must talk her out of her final psychic backlash”.  This piece clearly is a reference to the episode Epilogue where an older Amanda Waller is telling that story to Terry McGuiness.  Older Waller is in the set also.  But I would gladly trade older Waller and the Epilogue references here for the rest of the members of the Royal Flush Gang.  Ace just feels out of place without the rest of her team.

Speaking of teams, the Cheetah adds another member to our Injustice League, Legion of Doom and Secret Society of Super Villains teams .  Her catlike reflexes allow here to re-roll certain die rolls.

And then we have Shazam.  One of the great things here is this piece is a common.  Even though we got Shazam in the very last DC set and he was only a rare, that piece is so good it still draws a hefty price on the secondary market.  By including Shazam as a common, now everyone who wants one will be able to own and field a version of Shazam.  Oh yeah, and he has a power called “Shazam” which reflects his use of the lightning switching between him and Billy Batson to fight Superman.  You may be wondering why my Mattel Shazam is still in the package.  For that answer see the next picture.

Mattel did something really cool here.  They went beyond the show and created figures of Black Adam, the Wizard and Mary Batson (Mary Marvel) for the collectors and offered it as a 4 pack.  The four individual pieces were sold and shipped as a set.  I kept this set in their packages.
