Handheld first-person shooter coming to Sony's handheld; mercenary-based gameplay shown in Gamescom 2012 trailer.
Sony's Killzone series has once before made it onto a handheld platform in the form of Killzone: Liberation on the PlayStation Portable. However, that was a third-person shooter rather than a first-person shooter like the rest of the series. Today, Sony formally announced that an FPS in the Killzone universe will be coming to the PlayStation Vita in the form of Killzone: Mercenary.
Killzone: Mercenary was unveiled during Sony's Gamescom 2012 press conference with a gameplay demo showing off traditional Killzone first-person shooter gameplay. It also showed touch-screen-controlled melee kills, with the amount of in-game money earned appearing onscreen as the player dispatched enemies. The title and the general gameplay also hinted at the fact that you will control a mercenary, rather than a member of the Helghast or ISA forces.
Sony gave no information on the release date, developer, or any other PS Vita functionality for the game at this stage. For more on Sony's Gamescom lineup, check out GameSpot's Gamescom 2012 hub.
