Metal Gear Solid designer seeking to bring "real-life issues to the forefront" via upcoming mystery game.
Hideo Kojima's current mystery project will confront "delicate" and "taboo" topics, the legendary designer revealed this week in the nation's capital.
Speaking at the Smithsonian's just-opened "Art of Video Games" exhibit (via Shacknews), the developer said he's not sure if what he's planning will ship with the final product. Nevertheless, he said it's his goal to highlight these topics.
"The game I'm working on right now is dealing with quite a few issues that are pretty delicate and taboo," Kojima said. "I'm not sure if they'll end up being in the final product or not, but that's something that I want to continue to strive for." He says his aim is to "bring those real-life issues to the forefront," while also building a game that is fun to play.
Kojima didn't offer further information regarding his mystery project during the talk. The developer has been tied to an open-world game currently code-named Project Ogre, which was first talked about at the 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo. At the time, he said the team was still in the planning phase, experimenting with ideas and conducting research.
Since then, Kojima has also talked about plans for a Metal Gear Solid 5, as well as his desire to do another Zone of Enders game. He is also serving as executive producer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, although that title is being developed by Platinum Games rather than Kojima Productions.
