Last Call For MattyCollector.com – Website Closes TONIGHT!

After offering toy fans 8 years of  over 300 original, unique products sold, TODAY is the last day of MattyCollector.com.  It was announced to fans back in July at San Diego Comic Con that MattyCollector.com would be scuttled at the end of the year.  Today 12/31/16 is the last day of MattyCollector.com.

Over the past 8 years Matty has offered fans products from over a dozen licenses including: Masters of the Universe, DC Universe Classics, Justice League Unlimted, WWE, Ghostbusters, Thundercats, Back to the Future, 1966 Batman, DC Total Heroes and many more.  In it’s time, Matty offered us action figures, display stands and prop replicas as well as opening the door for us to get even more convention exclusives each year.  All of that new, monthly toy goodness delivered right to our mailboxes each and every month.  Because of Matty, the MOTUC line expanded well beyond any of it’s previous incarnations, we were able to complete our 6″ Super Powers collection, we got 2 more years of DCUC products and Justice League Unlimited lived on well beyond it’s scheduled cancellation plan.

I was going through my old, saved mail concerning Matty and came across the original information tease that was sent out to the collector press.  This email is dated 7/2/08, here is the section talking about the yet to be announced “collector website”:

And don’t forget some amazing unique exclusives at the show. Details about Lobo, Grayskull, Giganta, McQueen and a few other surprises are below. And be sure to stick around for the biggest news of them all… Starting the Monday after Comic Con, because you demanded it, Mattel will be launching a brand new Collector Website with the latest news, updates, previews and – the big one – EXCLUSIVE action figures from your favorite Mattel toy lines like CARS, DCU and more! Wait – you want more? – this new site will also be the EXCLUSIVE home of Masters of the Universe Classic action figures with a new character available EACH MONTH starting this fall!

Of course we’ll have more details including the URL name at San Diego Comic Con, but we wanted to make sure to give online toy fans the scoop first. Oh – and to kick off the new online store, we’ll be putting aside a very limited number of each of this year’s SDCC exclusives which will go on sale on the new collector web site at 8:00 am Eastern Standard Time on July 28th.

Of course Matty was never without it’s problems or it’s controversy, from the original “white screen of death” on their early order page to the countless issues with Digital River, who ran the back end of Matty, there was never a dull moment when it came to MattyCollector.com.

There are still a lot of products available to order today on the site, from new products launched this month, to older products across several license still in stock.  If there’s anything you still want or need, now is the time to grab it.

It’s a bittersweet day for many of us.  Sad that there will be no more monthly offerings from Matty, but happy that we will never have to trust Digital River with our personal and financial information ever again.

So long MattyCollector.com and thanks for all the additional plastic!
