Long-awaited Mac client currently works only on the Public Beta Environment; an open beta will follow.
The long-promised Mac client for League of Legends is now available in the game's Public Beta Environment. An open beta, allowing for play on the game's main servers, will follow.
League of Legends' Public Beta Environment is a separate build of the game which allows players to test upcoming versions of the game before they reach the main servers.
Posting on the Riot forums, associate producer Steve "Udyr" Mieczkowski said that "Riot engineers re-wrote a lot of the underlying game engine so that both PC and Mac platforms share the same code base and assets." Once the Mac client is out of testing, "Mac players will receive all future features, bug fixes, and new content at the same time as PC users."
The Mac PBE client for League of Legends can be downloaded directly here. Riot has also provided instructions for accessing the PBE.
Last week Riot announced the start of its qualifiers for Season 3 of the League of Legends Championship Series.
League of Legends currently claims to have around 12 million daily players.
