New LEGO® Star Wars™ X-wing starfighter is highlight of themed annual event

CARLSBAD, Calif. (June 15, 2013) – Thousands of people dressed as their favorite Star Wars™ characters came to LEGOLAND® California Resort for the first day of LEGO® Star Wars™ Days. The opening of the annual two-day galactic event held June 15 and 16, attracted fans of all ages dressed as their favorite Star Wars characters. LEGOLAND California’s newest addition, the massive life-size LEGO® Star Wars™ X-wing starfighter, was a huge hit with guests.

Weighing more than 45,000 pounds and created from five million LEGO bricks, the world’s largest LEGO model was revealed to Park guests for the first time on Thursday, June 13, 2013. The 1:1 replica X-wing model is 11 feet tall, stretches 43 feet long and has a wingspan of 44 feet.

Next to the X-wing hangar, guests spent time creatively building in a LEGO Star Wars Building Competition in Imagination Zone, testing their Star Wars knowledge with Jedi Trivia, participating in a Droid Hunt, LEGO Star Wars T-shirt Contest, Star Wars Costume Contest and interacting with members of the 501st Legion of Stormtroopers and Rebel Legion.

Fans were further immersed into the Star Wars experience as they walked through the LEGO® Star Wars™ Miniland Model Display which includes scenes from each of the six live-action Star Wars movies, as well as a scene from the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars™ all replicated in 1:20 scale using more than 1.5 million LEGO® bricks. The LEGO® Star Wars™ Gallery also added to the experience as guests encountered three-feet-tall LEGO minifigures of 12 famous Star Wars characters including Princess Leia, Wicket and Darth Maul.

In Miniland U.S.A., guests searched for Yoda to win prizes and enjoyed the LEGO Star Wars Fan Gallery on top of the Model Shop where local fans and LEGO Club members displayed some of their favorite LEGO Star Wars creations.
