Al Lowe and Replay Games looking for $500,000 in funding to start indie remakes of adventure game series; higher tiers will see backers or their dogs make cameos in game.

Leisure Suit Larry is ready for a comeback; he just needs a few bucks to make it happen. Austin, Texas-based Replay Games and Leisure Suit Larry creator Al Lowe have launched a Kickstarter project to fund a remake of the original Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards.

Originally announced last October without mention of crowd funding, the Leisure Suit Larry remake is intended to be an overhauled version of the character's debut 1987 adventure game. In addition to high-resolution graphics, the game is intended to feature a modern point-and-click interface, full voice work, additional jokes, and compatibility with mobile devices.

To accomplish that, Lowe and Replay are looking for $500,000 in funding. As of press time, the group had attracted just over $30,000 from nearly 700 backers, with 29 days left to reach the goal. If the project should surpass its funding target, the extra money will be used to translate it into additional languages, move it onto more platforms, create an orchestral soundtrack, and add on to the game itself.

Backers of the project will receive a variety of rewards. The entry-level $15 tier assures contributors a digital copy of the final game, with subsequent levels offering digital versions of the soundtrack, a boxed copy of the game, lithographs, art books, postage stamps, promotional banners, a cameo in the game (for the backer or the backer's dog), or lunch with the developer.

Leisure Suit Larry last appeared in 2009's critically savaged adventure game Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust.
