Magik, an infrequent member of the X-Men, is a bruiser in Marvel Rivals, moving a bit slower than other melee-focused heroes like Wolverine and Spider-Man, but hitting a bit harder. She uses her sword and Limbo portals to take out big chunks of enemy health bars, while sustaining herself with bonus health thanks to her passive ability. While there is no shortage of Duelists to choose from on the Marvel Rivals roster, Magik's capabilities make her a great pick for anyone who likes to run straight at their opponents. Magik Overview
Magik is a melee attacker, using her large sword to deal big hits to enemies. While she isn't fast the way other melee users are in Marvel Rivals, she does have multiple movement abilities. Her dash knocks enemies up, setting them up for a big sword hit, and the Stepping Discs provide a short window of invincibility and let Magik use one of two abilities when exiting the portal. Her passive turns any damage dealt into bonus health, making it imperative you deal damage in order to sustain close-range combat. Her ultimate ability isn't a big flashy ability, but it does enhance all of her normal abilities, letting you bully the enemy team for a short period of time. Magik doesn't have much of an exit strategy when it comes to her movement abilities, so you need to keep attacking to stay alive. Magik abilities and team-ups
Soulsword: Slash forward with the Soulsword. Stepping Discs: Jump through a Stepping Disc, teleporting a short distance in the direction of movement. Become invincible while teleporting. Umbral Incursion: Dash forward and launch up enemies. Eldritch Whirl: After using Stepping Discs, spin while swinging the Soulsword. Magik Slash: Strike forward an air slash. Demon's Rage: After using Stepping Discs, summon a Limbo demon that attacks enemies. Darkchild (ultimate): Transform into Darkchild, enhancing all abilities. Limbo's Might (passive): Convert damage inflicted on enemies into bonus health for Magik. Disc Master (Black Panther and Psylocke team-up): When Magik is on the field Black Panther and Psylocke can tap into Limbo, rewinding to a previous position and gaining health. Don't bring a gun to sword fight
Magik's biggest weakness is also her biggest strength, which is her close-range abilities. At a distance, you are at a disadvantage against anyone with ranged attacks, but once you get within sword-swinging range, it flips in your favor. Since you gain bonus health from dealing damage, once you get close enough to land a sword swing, you can typically sustain yourself long enough to take them out, even if they are laying into you with damaging attacks. If you find yourself unable to close the gap without taking a ton of damage, you should use the ranged Magik Slash to deal a big chunk of damage, giving you a nice cushion of bonus health to get yourself into danger. Now you're thinking with portals
The Stepping Discs are your best friend in combat since they provide a small window of invincibility. Both exit attacks, Eldritch Whirl and Demon's Rage deal a decent amount of damage, letting you get some bonus health on exit. Since you get two charges of Stepping Discs, you should use one early in the fight to deal damage and hold the second charge to dodge any big attacks that might get thrown at you. Since Magik needs to get close to deal damage, the enemy team has a tendency to all turn towards you if you're too much of a menace in a match. You can keep yourself from taking a big hit with the second charge and use the exit abilities to finish off anyone who might be low on health. Darkchild
Darkchild is a bit of a strange ultimate ability, since it doesn't really change too much about how you play Magik. It doesn't change too much about your abilities, except that they deal more damage. Extra damage is added as extra smaller hits after the initial attack, so you can't rely on taking out enemies in a single swing. Instead, you should still use the Stepping Discs for invincibility and focus on dealing damage to get bonus health. Another important thing to keep in mind here is that Magik moves and attacks a little bit slower in this form, but if you focus on taking out the enemies one at a time, you can get a couple of knockouts during its duration.
