Among the aspects of Commander Shepard that players can customize in the Mass Effect games is his or her first name. BioWare has released a list of the most popular male and female names in Mass Effect 3, with Sarah and Jack coming out on top for customized names.
The default names assigned to Shepard--Jane and John, depending on your gender choice--were "by far" the most common, according to a BioWare blog post. But when you look at player-assigned names, Sarah and Jack were the most frequently used by female and male players, respectively. Those were in turn followed by Kate and James, and then Alice and Chris (an especially fine choice).
The graphic below, released by BioWare today, also lists the top names in six other languages. Alex and Sarah both proved to be the most popular in the listed non-English languages, coming up as the top choices in three languages each.
Mass Effect 3, released in 2012, was the final chapter of the Shepard trilogy. A new Mass Effect game is currently in the works, but it will have nothing to do with Shepard or his/her story. "Well, I can't get into details, but the idea is that we have agreed to tell a story that doesn't relate necessarily to any of the Shepard events at all, whatsoever," said lead writer Mac Walters last year.
What name did you use when playing through the Mass Effect series? Let us know in the comments below.
