The Justice League Action 4″ figures have been a little slow to take hold in the market. While the 12″ line has been available at most retailers since the launch of the line, originally you could only find the 4″ scale figures at Toys R Us. Now with the post-Holiday toy aisle re-sets they are appearing at more retailers. So far we have gotten 2 waves of figures in that scale, the most recent being the wave with Firestorm and Lex Luthor.
It’s a great line, that I would love to report more on, since I was a huge fan of the Justice League Unlimited toy line, but sadly Mattel’s Boys marketing group seems unwilling to talk to collector press anymore, so our only information comes from the cardbacks when a new wave hits store. You may recall several weeks ago when I discovered the Lobo and Mr. Mind figures on the back of an new JLA vehicle’s packaging. Now two more discoveries have been made.
Late last week I came across wave 3 at a local Walmart, and not only did this wave feature new card art from the previous waves, it also gave us a new hero figure, a new villain figure and a new Bat-variant. At least I THINK this is wave 3… it might be wave 4? As I was doing research on this article I came across the news that there has also been a Flash and Blue Beetle figure released in the 4″ line on the OLD style of card that I have never seen before:
FLASH
BLUE BEETLE
Have any of you found these two figures in a store?
As you will recall, the first waves came on this type of card that featured Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman in the upper left corner:
The new cards caught my attention because now they feature a large image of the character in that upper left quadrant. In this new wave they have re-released the original wave 1 Batman and Superman with the exact same accessories and decos, but on the new card art:
As mentioned earlier there is a new Batman variant in the wave – Arctic Batman:
The other 2 new characters in this wave were shown on the card back, but not present at this store. Fortunately our own Captain Collector found them at his local Walmart this weekend and snapped some pictures for us. Here are Mr. Freeze and Swamp Thing:
Steve picked up the Swamp Thing figure so we get to see him open and compare him to the JLU figures, since he was a character that was never released in that prolific line of figures:
It’s nice to see this line is starting to pick up some momentum and get some fun new characters, some that we have never seen in this animated style. And we also know there are some characters that have been made as 12″ figures but not as 4″ figures yet, such as Hawkman, Plastic Man and Booster Gold.
Hopefully there will be some information about this line this weekend at Toy Fair. Time will tell but we will bring you the news as we are able to discover it.
