Over this past weekend in Los Angeles at the historic Egyptian Theater the American Cinematheque hosted a two night Masters of the Universe event featuring a screening of a 35mm print of the original Masters of the Universe feature film along with a discussion with some of the cast and crew:
MASTERING THE UNIVERSE: A HE-MAN & SHE-RA CELEBRATION
Cast & Crew In Person!
MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE
Presented by the American Cinematheque, Dammaged Goods and HeManWorld.com
Discussion following with director Gary Goddard, actress Chelsea Field, production designer William Stout and actor and weapons master Anthony De Longis, with a special introduction by actor Robert Towers, SFX crew member Max Cervantes, and Richard Szponder, winner of the 1986 Mattel contest who appeared in the film as Pigboy.

It’s a full day of “Masters of the Universe” at the Egyptian, starting with a meet-and-greet in the lobby and talks by voice actress Erika Scheimer and He-Man co-creator Mark Taylor. Screenings include a Filmation clip show (and discussion with Tom Sito, Larry DiTillio, Marc Scott Zicree, Melendy Britt and Alan Oppenheimer), a 30th anniversary presentation of animated feature THE SECRET OF THE SWORD, and the west coast premiere of the recent doc TOY MASTERS.

Apart from all gathering all of these incredible casts and fun screenings, Mattel showed up to the event with an impressive display of both vintage Masters of the Universe items, but also a lot of the newer items that will be coming over the next few months. I was not able to attend the screenings because I already had tickets to the Weird Al concert, but my friend, comedian Mike Black was there and took a lot of pictures that he was kind enough to share with us. A BIG thanks to Mike!
