The other day a friend of mine reached out to me to say he had gotten a message from an online retailer that Mattel’s 4″ DC Comics Multiverse line had been canceled. This was surprising to be because we had just seen production versions of 8-10 NEW figures back in February in the Mattel showroom at Toy Fair 2015. I reached out to one of my contacts on the Mattel retail side to see if I could get an answer to that question… and as long as I was asking things I followed up with questions on a few other Mattel retail products that fans have been anticipating.
Q1. BigBadToyStore.com just sent out of the following notice to people with pre-orders of the upcoming DC Multiverse figures:
“When Mattel solicited a new product line, DC Comics Multiverse 4” Figures, we listed preorders for all available waves. Unfortunately, we have just been informed by Mattel that they have discontinued this line of figures and ceased production so they will no longer be able to fill any orders.”
Does that mean all of the rest of the Batman: Arkham game figures shown at Toy Fair are cancelled? Like the 1966 skin Batman and detective mode Bane?
A: No. We are still making all of the 4” Multiverse Figures originally planned including 1966 Batman (game skin) and Detective Mode Bane.
Q2. Are we sill getting the 6″ Total Heroes Wonder Woman? It looked like she was production plastic in the Toy Fair showroom. Is she just caught in the LA dock worker strike log jam?
A: The worker strike in the Port of Long Beach is having an effect on product avails in the US. Having said that, Wonder Woman will be out this Fall at Toys R Us.
Q3. Same question about the 1966 Batman 3-pack with Batgirl. Still coming? Soon?
A: Yes. This will be out this Fall as a Toys R Us exclusive. Check your local store this August/September.
This is all good news for fans of these three action figure lines. The figures are still coming and we know to keep an eye on Toys R Us for the 66 Batgirl 3-pack and the Total Heroes Wonder Woman.
Thanks to the Mattel retail team for the answers!
