Blade is the Evil Master of Swords™. He’s unique release, in that he was a character in the 1987 Masters of the Universe feature film that also had a vintage figure in the original Masters of the Universe action figure line. Because he had a previous figure Mattel is also able to make a MOTUC figure of him. As of this writing Mattel still did not have the rights to make any MOTU movie character that did not have a vintage toy. Right now that list is just Blade, Saurod and Gwildor.
This MOTUC version of Blade is a hybrid of both the movie costume and the vintage MOTU figure.
The Horsemen took the best elements of both versions and combined it into one figure, but it seems to lean a bit heavier on the movie version with: the headgear, the chain mail, and the bladed shoulder pads.
“I’ve waited a long time for this!” He’s got one good eye and two deadly swords… this bad boy brandishes both weapons without hesitation. Based on the ’80s vintage toy, this skilled swordsman wears removable chainmail armor with a Skeletor® face. The Blade figure arrives with two swords (one for each hand!) plus a laser whip.
The final figure looks great and I think it’s a great improvement over the original figure with loads more detail. This figure has 2 loops on his sides to hold the swords. The vintage figure only had one in the back.
Blade comes with two swords and his laser-whip. There were some early figures that leaked out of Hong Kong on Ebay that had comically oversized swords. I’m happy to report that issue has been resolved with the final release and all weapons are the correct size.
His wrist weapon is also greatly improved from the vintage figure, giving a lot more detail in the darts.
Blade is the April “Club Eternia” figure. He will be on sale on MattyCollector.com on April 15th.
