Mattel’s MOTUC Horde Prime

On sale this week, on Friday the 15th is Horde Prime the June figure in the Club Eternia subscription.   Horde Prime is still a figure shrouded in mystery… literally.  Mattel has gone to great lengths to protect the secret of Horde Prime’s face, including gluing the removable helmet down at Toy Fair, not putting a picture on his bio and opening the package and removing the head before sending out the review samples.    I saw Pixel Dan got a Mighty Spector head on his sample.   I got a Faceless One head on mine.  I’ll be curious to see what some of the other sites got.   Let me be clear once more just in case – THE HEAD ON THE FIGURE IN THE PICTURES BELOW ARE NOT OF THE REAL HEAD YOU WILL GET WHEN YOU ORDER THIS FIGURE!!   All this is being done so that fans will still get a surprise in the line.

Horde Prime is an interesting one, because while he has a long history in MOTU lore he doesn’t have a definitive look.  He has appeared as a cloud thing, a giant metal hand , and as a kind of bug headed guy, which is where we get the look of the alternate head he comes with.  As a result the Four Horsemen had some wiggle room to create a new look for him for this figure.  Going with the back and red armor helps root the figure in the established Horde family… and Horde Prime IS Horde family because he is Hordak’s brother.  H has a removable cape, and his cowl/hood is removable much like Hordak’s if you pop the head off.  The helmet mostly rests in place with gravity doing the work, but there is also a groove inside of it where is might in fit on the secret head to help hold it in place.  He has silver “metal” hands that pop off on a peg and can be swapped with the included crossbow accessory.  The right hand is sculpted with the sort of claws extended over the knuckles.

You can order Horde Prime starting at 9:00am PST right here on MattyCollector.com.
