Back in the day the team at MattyCollector.com used to do a monthly “Ask Matty” Q&A with a variety of collector sites, including AFi. This month the new Matty team has relaunched “Ask Matty” over on the MattyCollector Facebook page. Here are the first round of questions and answers that they have posted:
Question #1
There was a post on MattyCollector.com on February 2,2016 at 4:18pm informing fans that you have heard us loud and clear on the ankle joints and that based on your feedback, we’re currently working very hard on improving the current ankle joints on our Filmation line.
My question is just what is mattel design planning to do to improve the current ankle joints on the Filmation line since we already saw production figures of Skeletor & Beast-man with the same bad ankles as filmation He-Man at ToyFair and will we get sets of improved boots later on where the ankles are flush to the foot to eliminate that horrible gap. Mattel is also currently showing a Filmation He-ManOm MattyCollecor.com in the sale section that appears to have corrected ankles now as of March 8, 2016 Will you explain what is going on with the Filmation lines Ankles please?
Answer : In production there are many stages of samples and reviews that we go through and often within that production schedule there are issues that arise. This was one of them and it was a major issue, but ultimately we had to move forward in order to not back up the entire line. We undertand that the current ankle is not as visually pleasing as some would like, but it does offer a lot of range of movement and we are trying to improve the gap as much as we can. Also the samples of figures that you see are not always the most up to date production versions so we understand why that would be confusing when you see samples at NYTF that don’t reflect our most current direction. We have also posted a lot about this on He-Man.org
Question #2
In case Mattel get to dino riders, do you consider to mold the mounts at the Motuc scale? I’d be like killing two birds with one stone.
Answer : If we do ever get to Dino Riders as a collector line we will keep that in mind. Thanks for the tip!
Question #3
Now that the new (great looking) packaging is being used for Club Grayskull figures, we no longer get a mailer box. Without the mailer box, many people received damaged packages on their He-Mans. Can something be done to help protect our purchases, while in transit?
Answer: We will definitely look into that issue and see what can be done. Please share any photos of damaged package issues so we can see what is happening.
Question #4
We have seen the most innovations with figures (in terms of articulation with the WWE Elite line) however the DC Line suffers from strange articulation in both looks and execution. In regards to that line and any others, are there any plans to update articulation?
Answer: Its hard to compare WWE and DC because they have a different offering all together. WWE gets a lot of use out of shared parts since its mostly dealing with Human bodies and has a range of body types that they can pull from , where DC tends to have more unique parts which tends to drive up tooling costs which limits how many new parts they can do. Also DC has a Collect and Connect figure in their lines so that part has to be accounted for as well, which tends to limit how much they can afford in regards to articulation and deco.
Question #5
It’s excellent that Powercon will be receiving three exclusive figures in 2016. Would you consider offering exclusive figures (figure variants or new and obscure characters) through other online stores, like Big Bad Toy Store, Entertainment Earth, Amazon, etc.?
Other toylines have done this, like Marvel Legends, Star Wars Black Series, G.I.Joe, ReAction, Funko Pop Vinyl, etc., and it has been successful.
It would be another great way to get out more characters and grow collections. Plus, those sites reach a very large collector audience. So, it would be great exposure for the Collector’s Choice, Club Grayskull, and Third Earth toy lines.
Answer: That is a great idea and is something that we are evaluating for the next years.
