Miley Cyrus has a few choice things to say about her VMAs performance. And WE’RE LISTENING…
I’ve talked about it. You’ve talked about it. We’ve ALL talked about it. Heck, we’ve poured over approximately 1.2 million think pieces outlining just what “twerking” means and asked “WHAT DOES THIS SAY ABOUT WOMEN AND SOCIETY?” But the question remains: Was Miley Cyrus‘ VMA performance too over the top? Or will it go down in the MTV history books right next to Britney Spears‘ python-holding “I’m A Slave (For You)” 2001 performance and Madonna‘s floor-rolling “Like A Virgin” performance?
Well, according to an exclusive MTV News interview with Miley herself, the Queen of Twerk admits that people might be “overthinking” what her onstage intentions were. Because she was just, well, being Miley. “You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn’t even think about it ’cause that’s just me.”
Miley also pointed that she’s not the first VMA performer to raise eyebrows: “Madonna’s done it. Britney’s done it. Every VMA performance, that’s what you’re looking for; you’re wanting to make history.”
So, what say you, Smilers? Slash the rest of the world? Do we agree with Miley? Was her performance indeed “history-making”?
Idolator’s Sam Lansky responded by quoting Miley’s latest single, “Wrecking Ball.” (Er, but that might also be because it’s the day after Labor Day, and we’re all #tired.)
Check out more Twitter reactions, and watch Miley’s post-VMAs interview after the jump. @kisssnmakeup212 quickly jumped to Miley’s defense (and brought Brooklyn into it):
@bjr70 thought Miley had a good point:
@ShaheenaKhan786 “salutes” Miley.
@chrisdude (and MANY others) showed what would’ve gone down on the Starship Enterprise had Captain Kirk & Co. tuned into Miley’s performance.
@MissRiaBieber got right in there with the words to “Wrecking Ball.” So apt!
@mythraidates wondered out loud what Miley’s religions affiliations were:
@AGMartin25 was NOT amused by Miley’s “history” comment:
But @AlexHunter fully agreed with Miley’s defense:
But, as usual, Grumpy Cat gets the last word!
Hey, not true, Grumpy Cat! Billy Ray Cyrus already OK’d Miley’s twerkin’! And what Billy says GOES.
