NetherRealm Studios seeking staffers to build next-generation titles at Chicago-based development shop.
Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm Studios has joined the growing list of studios hiring for next-generation systems. Multiple job listings at the Chicago, Illinois-based developer call for staffers who will work on next-gen consoles.
NetherRealm is seeking a senior software engineer and a gameplay software engineer to craft next-generation games. The requisition for senior software engineers calls for a person who will be tasked with, among other efforts, "developing and extending systems that are powerful as well as flexible for current and future generation consoles" and "developing and porting technologies to the next generation of consoles."
The job listing for a gameplay software engineer seeks a person who will create "game systems for exciting, cutting-edge action games on current and next-gen consoles." An ideal candidate for this position would have experience developing for the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, on a multiyear, "large-scale" game, according to the job listing.
NetherRealm's latest project is Mortal Kombat for the PlayStation Vita, which is due out on May 1 for Sony's new portable. As for NetherRealm's future, creative director Ed Boon told GameSpot in January that 2012 would be a year of diversification for the studio. He said, "With our studio, we really want to diversify ourselves, and work on multiple formats, multiple types of games, not just Mortal Kombat games."
Studios openly hiring for future consoles include Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Naughty Dog, DICE, Remedy Entertainment, Bethesda Game Studios, and Ready at Dawn.
As for the next generation of systems, Nintendo's Wii U is the only future-generation console to be announced. The system is due for a worldwide release this holiday season. For more on the next Xbox and the future-generation PlayStation, check out GameSpot's rumor roundup feature.
