Id Software's iconic Doom video game series is set to continue with the announcement of the next entry in the series during the Xbox Games Showcase in June, according to reports. The Verge's Tom Warren slyly referenced a future Doom announcement in a recent report about Xbox's recent issues. "Microsoft will be banking on some new game announcements lifting the Doom around Xbox," Warren reported, styling the word doom in that manner to seemingly reference the game series. Eurogamer reported that had "heard similar" things related to a Doom announcement in June. Id Software developed 2020's Doom Eternal, the latest entry in the main series. The mobile game Mighty Doom released in 2023 and was made by Alpha Dog Games. Microsoft recently closed the studio as part of a wider shakeup. Mighty Doom will go offline in August.
