May is almost here, which means tons of new shows and movies to watch on HBO Max. Some of the content is available starting on May 1, while other shows and movies will be available a little later next month. Hacks, the dramedy about a young comedian (Hannah Einbinder) getting a chance at a career comeback by grudgingly writing jokes for a seasoned comic who works nightly in Las Vegas (Jean Smart), is finally coming back for Season 2 on May 12. Season 1 was still dialing into how much the show wants to be a critique of systemic problems in comedy vs. a show about the perils of fame, and sometimes confuses one for the other, but either way it's a consistently biting and overdue satire of the comedy world. Per the new trailer below, Laure Metcalf (Roseanne, Lady Bird) is joining the cast this season--meaning another great reason to catch up and join the show in Season 2. Also coming back for Season 2 is That Damn Michael Che, a continuation of the polarizing Saturday Night Live co-head writer and Weekend Update co-anchor's HBO sketch show. Much like Che does over at his day--night?--job, the writer-comedian still skews towards the topical. However, That Damn Michael Che is a bit different because he's freed up to tangle more with what's in the general zeitgeist and not the last week's news cycles. Season 2 kicks off on May 26, and promises to "illustrate what it feels like to experience everyday situations including racial profiling, unemployment, falling in love, and more."
