Franz Ferdinand get it "Right" with their danceable new single.
It's hard to go wrong with Franz Ferdinand, a band that's been bringing its stylish take on indie rock to the world for more than a decade. The band's latest effort is "Right Action," the semi-title track of upcoming album Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, and it comes correct.

The imagery released with the track is full of '60s-style Saul Bass typography, and the song's definitely a trip into the past. "Right Action" thumps on a bed of gritty, funky guitar parts and vintage keyboard flourishes that conjure up the wooly fabrics of Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride," though the switch to a cleaner-cut chorus break -- all bold quarter-notes, the song's bounce flattened into punk guitar swipes -- is a classic Franz move.
The song's also just the right amount of tongue-in-cheek: "Sometimes, wish you were here/ weather permitting," frontman Alex Kapranos sings/jokes. The track even bursts into crackling, catchy "do-do-do" sections, too exuberant to worry about the forecast for long. It's always sunny in Franz Ferdinandia. The band's Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, its fourth album, is due Aug. 26 on Domino.
