Listen to Icona Pop's bangin' new single, "Girlfriend."
When we saw Icona Pop perform "I Love It" at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards, we knew they were about to become, like, cray cray town famous. Like, can't-go-home-to-Sweden-without-being-bombarded-and-potentially-stalked famous! Now, after hearing their beyond infectious single "Girlfriend" (no, literally -- it's on par with "I Love It"), we're positive the Swedish beauties are on a nonstop trajectory towards pop game domination.
Listen to Icona Pop's "Girlfriend" after the jump.
Set to a thumping, "throw your hands in the air" pop/dance beat, "Girlfriend" opens with a heavy interpolation of of 2Pac's "Me and My Girlfriend," which may or may not sound familiar to y'all since it was also heavily sampled in Jay-Z and Beyonce's grand opus, "03 Bonnie and Clyde."
The girls then move into the original verse, which speaks to their nonstop ride of fame and fun, and probably free clothes, booze, and hotel rooms. "That's how's gon' be/ Young wild and free/ Not gonna slow down/ Up to the max, until we crush, we're not gonna stop now." #WERQUE! Also: How long do you guys think it will take for the internet to provide us with a sick Icona Pop "Girlfriend"-meets-Justin Bieber "Boyfriend" mashup? Maybe like, five minutes?
