Macklemore & Ryan Lewis challenge traditional gender roles in "Stay At Home Dad."
What did you get your dad for Father's Day? A tie? A tie CLIP? A monogrammed Nalgene? A new set of golf clubs? Yeah, well, wanna know what Macklemore & Ryan Lewis got ALL THE FATHERS? Just a bangin' new rap song called "Stay At Home Dad"! #PRICELESS. And honestly, who knew that in between rocking vintage sunnies while taking "shirtless in bed" selfies, Macklemore had time to do anything else aside from stare at his own face and muscles?? Shocking.
Listen to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Stay At Home Dad" after the jump.
Set to a super chill, piano-driven sample (which just so happens to be CocoRosie's submissive "By Your Side"), "Stay At Home Dad" has the O Music Awards nominees challenging traditional gender roles, where they proclaim that it's OK if men want to watch the kids while their wives bring home the bacon. The "Thrift Shop" rappers humorously rhyme: "You're getting your degree/ You're going to college/ I'm making music and hoping that Kanye puts me on/ But if I don't make it, baby/ Will you be mad at me/ If I just chilled at home as your stay-home-daddy?"
Later, the "Can't Hold Us" duo adds: "You go girl, get that promotion/ I'll be on the sofa collecting unemployment." Seriously, if that isn't a secret anthem for Gloria Steinem, then we don't know what is! How long do we think it will take for this song to show up on a syllabus for a "Gender Studies 101" class at Brown University? Next semester?
