New Song: Nas Featuring Amy Winehouse, ‘Cherry Wine’

Nas samples the soulful voice of the late Amy Winehouse on 'Cherry Wine.'

Nas shared a close relationship with Amy Winehouse, who died a year ago on July 23. The Queens rapper was fortunate enough to collaborate with her on "Like Smoke," featured on Amy's posthumous album, Lioness: Hidden Treasures. And now the two have managed to team up again posthumously on "Cherry Wine," from Nas' 10th album, Life Is Good, out July 17.

It's no secret that Nas felt a kinship to the late songstress -- Amy allegedly referred to Nas on "Me And Mr. Jones," and, more recently, Nas' producer Salaam Remi even drew parallels between Amy Winehouse's seminal Back To Black and Nas' Life Is Good album. And when Nas spoke to NME about the new song, he said simply that "Cherry Wine" came from "God and Amy." So to hear Amy's vocals on his new record makes their spiritual and artistic connection even more evident.

On the song, Amy brings that heartbreaking, smoky sound that we remember her best for, singing "Where is he, the man who is just like me/ heard he was hiding somewhere I can’t see," while Nas later raps back "You’re the woman I need/ but where is she?" It's a somber tribute to the late lost lady.
