Studio lead Jade Raymond says new title will retain franchise's penchant for action, but will also delve into overlooked subjects.
Ubisoft has shed new light on its mysterious upcoming Splinter Cell game. Speaking to CVG, Ubisoft Toronto studio head Jade Raymond said the new game--rumored to be subtitled Retribution--will retain the franchise's proclivity for action, but will also delve into a neglected series theme.
"It will have all of the action flick elements for sure, but we're trying to also explore something a little bit more interesting that is actually one of the themes that's at the root of the franchise historically, but never has been surfaced so much," Raymond told the site.
Ubisoft announced in May 2010 that it had tasked its Toronto outfit to work on a new Splinter Cell game, but the publisher has been silent on the project since. Last month, a leaked Ubisoft release calendar indicated that the new Splinter Cell game would ship in 2012, but Ubisoft shot this speculation down, saying the reported lineup was inaccurate.
Raymond also spoke to other projects in development at the studio. She said the studio remains mandated to build a new intellectual property, but for now, the developer is "100 percent focused on Splinter Cell."
The most recent Splinter Cell title was Splinter Cell: Conviction, which shipped in 2010 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC after numerous delays.
