New Super Mario Bros. 2 sells 295,000 units in September

Nintendo reveals new US sales milestone for portable Mario game; 3DS software sales rise 89 percent year-over-year; Super Mario 64 DS reaches 5 million sales.

 

Research group NPD revealed yesterday that New Super Mario Bros. 2 was September's fourth best-selling game in the United States. Now, Nintendo has provided specificity, saying the game shifted 295,000 units during the month.

Nintendo also said Mario Kart 7, Star Fox 64 3D, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D all saw sales increases compared to last month. Overall, total 3DS software sales jumped 89 percent compared to this time last year, Nintendo said.

Lastly, Nintendo announced that Super Mario 64 DS has now sold more than 5 million units in the United States alone. It is the third Nintendo DS game to reach this sales milestone, joining New Super Mario Bros. (10.6 million) and Mario Kart DS (8.5 million).

Total US September software sales dropped 14 percent to $547.3 million. Madden NFL 13 was the best-selling game of the month, followed by Borderlands 2 and FIFA Soccer 13.
