B.o.B. and Taylor Swift get a little emo in his "Both Of Us" video.
B.o.B.'s "Both Of Us" video, featuring Taylor Swift, dropped today, and it's a sophisticated look at the intricacies and challenges that define human relationships (what up, Psych 101?). Initially, we were a little "WTF?" when we heard that the Southern rapper was teaming up with our favorite pop/country siren. But after she covered Hayley Williams' part on "Airplanes" in concert, perhaps it started to click: few rappers drop emotionally earnest, vulnerable verses the way Bobby Ray does, and, while we're being real here, few singers are as earnest and vulnerable as Taylor Swift. (Plus, we all know Taylor Swift's got swag.) And now that the Jake Nava-directed video's dropped, it all makes perfect sense -- this is, after all, a video that, as B.o.B. said in a behind-the-scenes feature, is really about anyone and for anyone.
While the "Both Of Us" video doesn't have a distinct plot, it does feature individual story lines ranging from a couple in the throes of puppy love to a family staring in awe at their newborn baby. B.o.B. explained that the video "is about all walks of life, all classes of society. It’s about everybody, really." It's a tribute to everyone's struggle and everyone's need to reach out during our happiest times and our darkest hour by two artists unafraid of some self-examination. (Also, to make a completely shallow point, I'd be remiss if I didn't include a shout to that shirtless scene. Thanks, dude!)
"Both Of Us" appears on B.o.B.'s Strange Clouds album.
