New Video: Plies, ‘We Are Trayvon’

The tragedy of Trayvon Martin's death in February has rocked the nation -- and inspired an outpouring of support from the hip-hop community. MCs have addressed his controversial killing and shooter George Zimmerman's recent arrest in a number of outlets, including on Twitter and MTV's "RapFix Live." The events have drawn strong words from Bun B and Nas, among others.

Plies is the latest to weigh in: "We Are Trayvon" is a new song and video in honor of the late teenager. The tribute video opens with a candlelit memorial and a child stating, "We are Trayvon," before giving away to somber music. "I never thought wearing no hoodie could cost you your life," Plies raps, and the multiracial cast pays homage to Martin's wardrobe on the night of his death with "17 and Unarmed" and "We Are Trayvon" hoodies as well as Skittles and ice tea -- the items he carried when he was shot by Zimmerman. Plies also looks back on Martin's life, rapping "I heard you was a little beast on that football field."

In a bighearted move from Plies, all proceeds from the track will go toward the Justice for Travyon Martin Foundation, founded by the teenager's parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin. You can show your support on iTunes and watch the video below.
