Mario maker says “we’re big fans” of Mojang, but has nothing to announce about open-ended sandbox game coming to Nintendo platforms.
Mojang has released its megahit Minecraft on various platforms, including Xbox 360, PC, and mobile devices, but Nintendo systems have been left out so far.
Asked what Nintendo can say regarding the potential for Minecraft to come to the Wii U or 3DS, business development manager Dan Adelman told GameSpot, “What can we say on that front? [laughs].”
Nintendo senior manager of marketing for licensing Damon Baker added, “We’re big fans. We have a continuing relationship with Mojang, and respect all the work that they’re doing, but no announcements at this time.”
Baker said Nintendo speaks with and keeps track of “what everybody’s doing,” noting one of the reasons the company is at PAX Prime this year is to have conversations with these developers “whether they’re making games for other platforms or not.”
“We’ve got our own favorites that we’ve had conversations with,” Baker said. “So I think it’s always a work in progress.”
Mojang developer Jens Bergensten said in March that a version of Minecraft for the Wii U would be “very unlikely.”
Check back later for more from GameSpot’s conversation with Adelman and Baker.
