For the second year in a row, Mario and Zelda company Nintendo will forgo a traditional E3 press conference in favor of a digital presentation. Nintendo announced today that it will hold a "Nintendo Digital Event," what it calls a "new kind of video program," at 9 a.m. PT on Tuesday, June 10. That's Nintendo's typical Tuesday slot, one day after Microsoft and Sony hold their press briefings in Los Angeles on Monday, June 9.

The "Nintendo Digital Event" will bring news about games coming to Nintendo platforms in 2014 and beyond, Nintendo said. No further specifics were announced.

"We demonstrated last year that we are never afraid to reinvent a proven tactic or to break completely new ground if we believe it will provide the best experience for our fans, followers, and partners," Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said in a statement.

Super Smash Bros. Invitational:

Nintendo is inviting 16 "highly skilled" Smash Bros. players to the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles to compete in a Super Smash Bros. tournament to be played on the upcoming Smash Bros. game for Wii U. You can watch this event in person or stream it online, Nintendo said.

Nintendo Treehouse: Live at E3:

A special booth on the E3 show floor will provide attendees "in-depth" game demos. This event will also be live streamed all day during E3.

Super Smash Bros. Smash Fest at Best Buy:

Last year, Nintendo and Best Buy teamed up to allow shoppers to play unreleased Nintendo titles, and the two companies are continuing their relationship this year. Best Buy shoppers will get to play Super Smash Bros. for Wii U at the store, though we're still waiting on details about specific dates and which stores will have the game on offer.

To promote its upcoming E3 plans, Nintendo partnered with comedy group Mega 64 for a new promotional video that you can watch above.
