Obsidian’s Project Eternity hits $2 million

Fallout developer's crowd-funding campaign for isometric PC role-playing game reaches new donation milestone with 20 days remaining; three new modes added.

Independent developer Obsidian Entertainment has now raised over $2 million through Kickstarter for its isometric, party-based PC role-playing game. The funding milestone was reached today, and stands at $2,018,796 from 47,094 backers as of press time.

Now that the campaign has banked $2 million, Obsidian will add three new modes to Project Eternity: Expert, Trial of Iron, and Path of the Damned. The game's Expert mode will disable all ease-of-use gameplay elements and will ratchet up difficulty to be more punitive and demanding.

Trial of Iron mode for Project Eternity makes it so players have just one save game. If players die, the save game is deleted and gamers must begin anew. Lastly, the Path of the Damned mode enables all enemies from all difficulty levels and "amplifies" the combat to make battles "much more brutal."

The Kickstarter campaign launched September 14 and hit its original $1.1 million funding target in 24 hours. It closes October 16 at 9 p.m. EDT.

Project Eternity (working title) is tentatively scheduled to launch during 2014. It is one of at least three projects that Obsidian is working on. The developer is readying multiplatform role-playing game South Park: The Stick of Truth for launch during March 2013, and is also behind a project based on Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time fantasy series.
