PlayStation has revealed this month's batch of PS Plus Essential free games. Starting Tuesday, November 7, subscribers will be able to claim a trio of games for PS5 and PS4. November's PlayStation Plus lineup includes Aliens Fireteam Elite, Mafia II: Definitive Edition, and Dragon Ball: The Breakers.
After the release of Mafia: Definitive Edition in 2020, it wasn't long before its sequel received the same upgraded experience. Mafia II: Definitive Edition unfortunately isn't as good of a remake and it clearly shows its age amidst creaking gameplay mechanics and enough F-bombs to qualify as a Martin Scorsese gangster movie. Beyond those glaring problems, there's still a terrific story here that takes time to weave a fascinating tale about power and trust, and visually, it's a much sharper game than the original PS3 and Xbxo 360 version. If you don't mind the archaic gameplay and you're interested in an open-world game that doesn't throw a ton of busywork at you between missions, it's worth picking up.
Aliens Fireteam Elite is a pretty terrific game set in the Alien universe, one that goes all in on the gung-ho power fantasy of being a Colonial Marine and throws in some tactical ideas for good measure. You can play it solo with AI-controlled teammates or team up with other players to explore the planet LV-895. It just so happens to be inhabited by hordes of Xenomorphs, but with several Marine classes to choose from, plenty of weapons to master, and several special abilities to equip, you can quickly turn the tide of battle in this fast-paced action game. There have also been several well-received expansions for Aliens Fireteam Elite since launch, so if you like what you see, these are available as optional extras at a very affordable price.
