I have been to quite a few of the broadcasts of the Rifftrax live shows, and as a long time MST3k fan I LOVE them, I can’t wait to see them take on Sharknado 2 and The Room. Their latest kickstarter for the 2015 live shows has already funded, but it’s well worth having a look and throwing a few bucks at it.
Thanks to you, we have done two hugely successful Kickstarters over the past two years that funded us to be able to riff STARSHIP TROOPERS and GODZILLA (1998) + ANACONDALIVE and simulcast to over 700 theaters across North America. These shows were a big hit, and this year we have the opportunity to perform FOUR RiffTrax Live shows with some of the most awesome bad movies ever. Are you ready? They are:
– THE ROOM!
– SHARKNADO 2!
– MIAMI CONNECTION!
– SANTA AND THE ICE CREAM BUNNY!
It’s a superfecta of bad movies. We call it… THE CRAPPENING.
We did it! We got the rights to ALL these cinematic masterpieces. Woohoo!!! And we can’t wait to riff ‘em live. To seal the deal, we’d love your help again. The cost to secure the theatrical rights and for the production itself is beyond doing this on our own, but it does work out if we get a little help from our fans.
So, Kickstarter community, please be a part of our MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000-style funny commentaries for THE CRAPPENING, broadcast LIVE to hundreds of movie screens to a massive audience in a series of four one-night events on May 6, July 9, October 1, and December 3rd, 2015!
WHO WE ARE
The guys at RIFFTRAX have been providing hilarious movie commentary for years. First as writers and stars of the cult TV comedy show MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 aka MST3K– and then online since 2006, as RIFFTRAX – Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett have taken on movies bad and not-so-bad, with one and only one mission: to make them funny.
Celebrity guests on various RiffTrax offerings have included Neil Patrick Harris, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Joel McHale, Jonathan Coulton, Andy Richter, Bob Odenkirk, David Cross, Kristen Schaal, John Hodgman, Mythbuster Adam Savage, Chris Hardwick, Paul F. Tompkins, Maria Bamford, Fred Willard, NPR’s Peter Sagal and loads more.
If you’re not familiar with us, check out this video for a little taste of what we do at RiffTrax:
But the pinnacles of our live riffs were STARSHIP TROOPERS in the summer of 2013, and GODZILLA and ANACONDA this past summer, all of which were only made possible thanks to the generous support of you, the Kickstarter community.
And this brings us to the reason we’re back on Kickstarter. The rights to movies like THE ROOM and SHARKNADO cost a decent chunk of change, and the production costs for the Live Shows themselves are crazy high, so to have this madness make any economic sense we need your help. We have the rights to these movies locked in, and we have the dates reserved for the shows – the rest is up to you!
