Following Shazam! Fury of the Gods's first-weekend box office numbers, which came in below expectations, director David Sandberg took to Twitter to announce he's done making superhero movies for the time being. The movie earned $30.5 million in the US and Canada over the weekend, which was down 43% compared to the original movie's first-weekend ($53.5 million) back in 2019. "On Rotten Tomatoes I just got my lowest critic score and my highest audience score on the same film," Sandberg tweeted. "I wasn't expecting a repeat of the first movie critically but I was still a little surprised because I think it's a good film. Oh well. As I've been saying for a while now I'm very eager to go back to horror (as well as trying some new things). After six years of Shazam I'm definitely done with superheroes for now." Worldwide, the movie has now made $65.5 million, which includes $35 million from international markets. Shazam 2 was projected to make $85 million worldwide for its first weekend. All of these box office numbers come from Deadline. Continue Reading at GameSpot
