Users will be able to play games from all regions on the PS4.
Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 4 will be region free.
Sony worldwide studios president Shuhei Yoshida took to Twitter to confirm that Sony's next-generation console wouldn't opt to restrict games to specific geographical regions.
"And yes, PS4 is region free :D," said Yoshida.
Microsoft's Xbox One will be region locked, meaning users couldn't play a Japanese game on an American console.
Sony announced last night that the PlayStation 4 would launch for $399 in North America, €399 in Europe, and £349 in the UK. Microsoft's Xbox One will retail for $499/€499/£425. Both consoles will be released later in 2013.
Sony also announced that it wouldn't restrict used games on its next-gen console, nor would the PlayStation 4 require an online check-in once every 24 hours.
