Spider-Gwen: Meet the Cast

If being a super hero can’t get you out of an awkward, drama-filled Thanksgiving dinner, nothing will.

This Thanksgiving, join Gwen Stacy and crew as they gather around the table and…enjoy a nice meal together? But, what exactly do Matt Murdock and his ninjas plan to whip up for dinner? Find out November 23 in SPIDER-GWEN #14.

To prepare for the festivities, we sat down with series writer Jason Latour to go over the familiar faces in the Spider-Gwen Universe. Keep reading for your guide to who’s who in Earth-65.

Captain Stacy

Captain Stacy is “kind of the co-star of the book,” says Latour. He’s Gwen’s father and one of the most well respected former NYPD police officers. And although he might be retired, he’s still up to date—and involved—in police activity.

“These young women are more than Gwen’s best friends,” explains Latour. “They’re her tether to the life she misses out on each time she dons her Spider-Woman costume. Without them—and all the drama and hi-jinx they inspire—she’d just be an empty costume.”

The Lizard/Peter Parker

“This is who Peter Parker may have become if that spider had never crossed his path,” posits Latour. “He worshipped Spider-Woman, but his desperate effort to mimic her and escape the torment of his bullies turned toxic. Transformed into the Lizard, he accidentally dies at in battle with Spider-Woman and becomes the main source of her guilt—and the crime for which the public deem her guilty.”

Matt Murdock

“This Matt Murdock is a cunning, dangerous man,” reveals Latour. “Raised within the mysterious organization known as the Hand, he’s fought his way to the bloody top of the Kingpin’s crime organization, serving for years as Wilson Fisk’s right hand. But, now Fisk is in prison and it seems that Murdock is in charge. And with his new regime come new plans…plans that include Spider-Woman.”

Frank Castle

“Captain Frank Castle takes over the hunt for Spider-Woman after Gwen’s father, Captain Stacy is removed due to a clear conflict of interest,” reviews Latour. “But Castle’s personal demons are as unrelenting as his sense of justice. Sharing none of Stacy’s confliction or concern for the truth, he is driven to catch Spider-Woman no matter who stands in his way.”

Captain America

“World War II vet Samantha Wilson is the sole survivor of the U.S Army’s ‘Super Soldier Program,’” says Latour. “Her heroic intervention stopped an inter dimensional Nazi invasion but in the process left her trapped and forced to wander the multiverse. 75 years later she’s returned to resume the mantle of Captain America. She’s Gwen’s role model and Captain Stacy’s favorite comic character.”

Gwen Stacy

Last but not least, we have Gwen Stacy. This Gwen Stacy lives on Earth-65, an alternate world where she gets bit by a radioactive spider instead of Peter Parker, turning her into Spider-Woman. The daughter of a former NYPD police officer Gwen spends her time as a member of the Mary Janes and an unstoppable crime fighter.
