The Biggest Game Releases Of December 2024

Congratulations: You've made it to the end of another great gaming year! December is typically a laid back month, and when it comes to new game launches, there is only a handful of big releases arriving. Indiana Jones and the Great Machine is easily the main event, as you'll be cracking whips and exploring ancient tombs in style when this game swings into action early this month.

Other highlights this month include a combo of free-to-play games in the form of Overwatch-like Marvel Rivals, cottagecore adventure Infinity Nikki, and Delta Force. The venerable tactical-shooter series is looking to enlist PC gamers for a new tour of duty, but if that sounds too intense for you, Infinity Nikki looks like a fashionable and charming trip into a fantasy world.

In case you're in the mood for something a little more retro-influenced, you can take on Rita Repulsa's minions in Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind. The classic Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver games are also making a comeback with a new remaster, you can burn some Christmas pudding carbs with a new Fitness Boxing game on Switch, and Monument Valley 3 looks like it'll be a good test of your puzzle-solving skills when it arrives on mobile.

Here's a closer look at everything arriving this month, and for a recap of this year's highlights, you can check out our list of the best games of 2024.

Antonblast

  • Release date: December 3
  • Platforms: PC, Switch

It looks like the devil might have made a mistake in Antonblast, as after the prince of darkness steals the demolition man's prized collection of spirits, all hell breaks loose. As the enraged Dynamite Anton, it's up to you to smash your way through levels, engage in a few boss fights, and give the devil his two-fisted dues when you finally get your hands on him.

Delta Force

  • Release date: December 4
  • Platforms: PC

After several years of Battlefield and Call of Duty games dominating the military-shooter space in the first-person genre, Delta Force is resurfacing as a free-to-play game. Large-scale multiplayer maps look to be the main draw of this revival of the classic tactical-shooter series, but there'll also be a campaign centered around the Battle of Mogadishu, which the developers say has been heavily influenced by the 2001 Ridley Scott film Black Hawk Down.

Fantasian Neo Dimension

  • Release date: December 5
  • Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch

For anyone looking to jump into a JRPG that harkens back to a bygone era, Fantasian Neo Dimension is one such game to check out. Originally available exclusively on iOS when it was first released in 2021, this turn-based RPG from the mind of Hironobu Sakaguchi is out on PC and consoles this month. The neat thing about it is that incorporates real-world dioramas built specifically to be the in-game worlds, and it has a fantastic soundtrack by longtime Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu.

Infinity Nikki

  • Release date: December 5
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Android, iOS

Ready for a cottagecore fantasy adventure? That's what Infinity Nikki aims to deliver when it launches this month. Development was led by The Legend of Zelda expansion pass director Kentaro Tominag, and the game has cozy vibes, puzzles to solve, and secret areas to discover.

Fitness Boxing 3: Your Personal Trainer

  • Release date: December 5
  • Platforms: Switch

Winter is here, and if you're looking to start working on your 2025 summer body, you can't go wrong with some cardio exercise at home. Fitness Boxing 3 looks like it'll be a great tool to help you warm up your body, as just like its predecessors, it lets you work off some steam by throwing jabs and hooks as various instructors motivate you to let loose.

Marvel Rivals

  • Release date: December 6
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S

Inspired by Overwatch, Marvel Rivals puts an interesting spin on PvP action with its multiversal roster and free-to-play design. While jetting around an arena as Iron Man or creating havoc as Venom looks like fun, the team-up abilities, destructible environments, and fast-paced action combined with a cool art direction make for a fascinating game to end the year with.

Path of Exile 2

  • Release date: December 6
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S

Path of Exile has an early-access date on PC--slightly delayed from its intended November 15 release date --and this highly anticipated action-RPG will arrive with a chunky amount of content to sample. There'll be several classes to master, roughly half the campaign to play through, and loot to chase after as developer Grind Gear Games gets to work on completing its dark fantasy adventure.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

  • Release date: December 9
  • Platforms: PC and Xbox Series X|S

It has been quite a while since everyone's favorite archeologist--sorry, Lara Croft--got a big-budget video game adventure, but that drought is over with the release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle this month. A globe-trotting adventure from Wolfenstein developer MachineGames, the new Indy game looks like an ambitious attempt to balance action with storytelling and mystery.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 and 2 Remastered

  • Release date: Dcember 10
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch

While it's not a new entry in the series, a pair of Soul Reaver remasters isn't a bad way to end the year. Arriving just in time to celebrate the franchise's 25th anniversary, both The Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver games have been updated with high-resolution graphics, improved controls, and a photo mode to play around with. If you're a purist, you can also toggle between the shiny new graphics and the original blocky visuals.

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind

  • Release date: December 10
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch

It's morphin' time once again, as Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind looks like a throwback to a golden 16-bit era of action games. Billed as a retro-inspired beat-'em-up, developer Digital Eclipse says it aimed to make the ultimate version of a '90s arcade game that never existed. The end result is mostly focused on pummeling your way through Rita Repulsa's army of Putty Patrollers, but a large chunk of the game is influenced by Sega’s super-scaler games like Space Harrier and Out Run. These simulated 3D sections will see players brave dangerous gauntlets and Godzilla-sized foes when they jump into their Dinozords and combine to form the ultimate weapon, the Megazord.

Monument Valley 3

  • Release date: December 10
  • Platforms: iOS, Android

Netflix subscribers can look forward to a critically acclaimed sequel, as Monument Valley 3 will be available exclusively through Netflix Games at launch. Like the previous Monument Valley games, the threequel focuses on moving around MC Escher-like environments and manipulating them to find the safest path for your character to progress through. As a reminder, if you have a Netflix account, you can grab this as a freebie on your mobile device.

Fairy Tail 2

  • Release date: December 12
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, PS4

A sequel to the 2020 Fairy Tail game released by Koei Tecmo, Fairy Tail 2 features completely redesigned combat when compared to its predecessor's turn-based system. Set during the Alvarez Empire Arc that concluded the original manga series, players will take on Zeref and the Spriggan 12, as well as the infamous dragon of destruction, Acnologia.

The Spirit of the Samurai

  • Release date: December 12
  • Platforms: PC

Games starring samurai heroes have been all the rage lately, but The Spirit of the Samurai looks like it'll stand out from the pack with its 2D stop-motion-animation art direction. Throw in some souls-like action and metroidvania influences to complement the atmospheric world, vile monsters based on Japanese folklore, and several playable characters--including a cat warrior--and you've got an interesting game to check out this month.

Alien: Rogue Incursion

  • Release date: December 19
  • Platforms: PC and PS5 via PlayStation VR 2

An action-horror VR game from Creed: Rise to Glory developer Survio Games, Alien: Rogue Incursion looks like a terrifying new instalment in the Alien franchise. While you can grab a pulse rifle and blast your way through the acid-blooded monsters, you'll need to stay frosty as these perfect lifeforms are cunning and unpredictable. We won't lie to you about your chances, but you do have our sympathies when you take on the fiends.
