The gaming year is officially heating up as we head into March, with the month ahead being absolutely stacked with high-profile releases and new indie game launches. With the launch of PlayStation VR 2, Destiny 2's Lightfall expansion, and Atomic Heart in the rearview mirror, March 2023 is loaded with the return of iconic survival-horror, 18 holes of golfing bliss, and superstars dropping elbows from the top rope. Kicking off March is a brand-new souls-like from the team behind Nioh, as Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty mixes Team Ninja's talent for brutal hack-and-slash action with Chinese history and a dark fantasy world to explore. If you'd prefer a different kind of souls-like experience that also mixes in some retro gaming influences, then the Castlevania pack for Dead Cells will take you right back to Dracula's castle for a throwdown with the lord of vampires. PC gamers can add another PlayStation title to their collection with The Last of Us Part 1, and if you're after a more personal type of drama that can only be solved inside with hurricanranas off the top rope, then lace up your boots and get ready to headline Wrestlemania in WWE 2K23. Bt off course, the real big game of March is the return of an icon, a global force of nature known as Peppa Pig, who sets off on a globetrotting adventure. If Peppa's trip around the world is too much for you to handle, you can dive into the dark atmosphere of Resident Evil 4 Remake instead. After Dead Space Remake raised the bar for what a reborn game should be capable of and aim for, it'll be fascinating to see how Resident Evil 4 Remake improves on the original and how it measures up to EA's masterpiece. Fitness Boxing: Fist of the North Star (March 2)
Your muscles are already dead! And if you're looking to revive them, why not spend a few sparring sessions with the master of an ancient fighting style that uses lethal acupuncture punches to turn people into walking blood bombs? Team up with Kenshiro in this Fist of the North Star spin-off for Switch, take on rivals in battle mode, and get a great workout in the process as you become the next master of post-apocalyptic martial arts.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty (March 3)
Team Ninja puts its own stamp on the soulsborne genre with its two Nioh games, blending fast-paced action with ruthlessly challenging gameplay. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty looks set to be a spiritual successor to Nioh, but with some interesting differences that make for a more accessible experience. A game of high risk and high reward with its Morale Rank system, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty might be a brutal journey through warring kingdoms, but it goes to great lengths to encourage players to head out and grow stronger.
Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania DLC (March 6)
Castlevania might return from the dead one day, but for now, the next best thing is a love letter to that franchise in the form of Dead Cells DLC. Developer Motion Twin's challenging metroidvania game already shares plenty of DNA with classic Castlevania games, so dressing up the game in the gothic style of the Konami series is a match made in heaven. More stages, more weapons, and familiar faces all help to create a tempting excuse to pay Dracula a visit inside his castle.
WWE 2K23 (March 17)
Last year's WWE 2K22 got the wrestling franchise back on track, and this year, the focus is on delivering another slobber-knocker of main event action. As usual, you'll be able to choose from almost 200 superstars, control them in all kinds of unique match types, and build your own legend on the road to Wrestlemania. For fans of WWE history, there's the new story mode centered all around Cenation leader John Cena, chronicling his rise from OVW to the grandest stage of them all. The big difference here though? You won't be playing as Cena, but rather as the challengers who all sought to become legends by taking Big Match John down for the three-count.
Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon (March 17)
A new Bayonetta game mere months after the last game first arrived? Oh it's true, but this new title is a spin-off prequel that swaps the over-the-top big-budget action of mainline entries for a more visually striking adventure that features isometric gameplay. It's a huge departure from the usual formula of Bayonetta games, but the chill storybook aesthetic and dual-protagonist gameplay mixed with some solid combat makes for a fascinating new direction for the series.
Peppa Pig: World Adventures (March 17)
It's time to collect on some outstanding wagers because pigs are about to fly. Specifically, in economy class around the world as Peppa Pig makes her grand return to console and PC. Alongside her family and friends, Peppa will visit Paris, Australia, London, and several other locations, meeting new characters and dressing up. You'll also be able to design your own character and family who'll join Peppa on her trip; and closer to home, you'll be able to construct a house in Peppa's neighborhood that can be decorated with collectibles and souvenirs from your travels.
EA Sports PGA Tour (March 24)
Summer might still be a few months away, but this month you'll be able to tee off from the comfort of your own home as EA Sports makes its grand return to the PGA Tour. EA Sports PGA Tour is exciting game for dedicated golf fans, as it features all four Major championships: the Masters, PGA Championship, US Open, and The Open. You'll create your own golfer, develop your skill set with new shot types, and learn the right strategies for taking on the 30 real-life courses that have been authentically recreated.
Resident Evil 4 (March 24)
The remake that Resident Evil fans have been waiting years for, Resident Evil 4's upcoming rebirth has some big shoes to fill. The original game is often regarded as one of the best survival horror games ever. For this rebirth of the 2005 game, Capcom has added modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and gruesome graphics to bring the cult-classic into the new era. Like previous remakes of Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4's new lease on life looks set to capture the spirit of the original game while injecting some fresh surprises into the mix.
Crime Boss: Rockay City (March 28)
Publisher 505 Games and developer Ingame Studios' new action-packed title might just be one of the most unusual games of the month to look forward to. Featuring a cast of who's available C-rank actors (Not you Michael Rooker, never you) voicing multiple loose cannon cops and criminals, the game resembles a love letter to 1990s action movies as you rampage through an untamed version of Florida from a bygone era.
The Last of Us Part 1 (March 28)
Balancing on a fine line between remake and remaster, The Last of Us Part 1 brings the PS3 classic up to the visual quality of its sequel on PS5 and PS4. While some of the gameplay might feel a tad dated, the new coat of digital paint does a stellar job of modernizing the game, while several great quality-of-life improvements and a suite of accessibility options make this version of The Last of Us the definitive one.
System Shock - March TBC
Seven years after it first hit the crowdfunding campaign trail, the remake of System Shock is finally preparing to touch down this month. Developer Nightdive Studios has been hard at work on quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes in an effort to create a faithful reboot of the genre classic, and with several industry veterans on the team, the results have been promising so far. It's worth noting that while System Shock is currently scheduled for a March release, the developers have been very quiet as of late. If there is a delay, this post will be updated with details.
Sifu (March TBC)
A year after it first launched on PC and PlayStation, Sifu is kung-fu kicking its way onto Xbox this month. In case you missed it when it first came out, Sifu is a martial arts adventure that is relentlessly tough and has incredibly deep combat mechanics with a roguelike twist. Every defeat is a lesson learned, but you'll need to make some big sacrifices if you want to bounce back into action and finish your quest for vengeance. With plenty of extra content added since launch, Xbox players can look forward to the definitive version of Sifu when it kicks down your door.
