From Chavril to Blue Ivy, here are the biggest OMG moments of 2012!
2102, y'all, what a YEAR! While we were busy working, falling in love (or still actually not falling in love. Hello, where's my boyfriend?), getting new jobs, and generally chilling, pop music was off being awesome! In case you'd forgotten, we'll remind you that 2012 brought the birth of Jay-Z and Beyoncé's ultra-cool spawn, Blue Ivy, Frank Ocean came out, the Spice Girls reunited, and also KIMYE and HAYLOR. Obvs there's plenty more from where that came from, so check out the rest of our favorite OMG moments of 2012 below!
JANUARY 2012
+ Beyoncé and Jay-Z's baby Blue Ivy is born: This one's pretty self-explanatory, given that Jay-Z and Beyoncé are the unofficial reigning king and queen of the music industry (slash world), so why wouldn't we be thrilled beyond words to meet their first offspring? Plus, Blue Ivy's already the best-dressed child ever with her baby-size "Watch The Throne" gear.
+ Lana Del Rey Flops on "SNL": Lana Del Rey's performance on "Saturday Night Live" was supposed to be her shining national debut, but instead of knocking our socks off with her crazy talent, the "National Anthem" crooner kinda sorta...flopped. We understand -- stage fright sucks. Ugh, and then everyone talked about it for a really long time. If it were us, we'd crawl under the nearest rock and pray for death. But you know what? Lana got right back up and snagged a bazillion endorsement deals, so we'd argue she's recovered from her flop quite well. Let's face it -- it could've been like the time Ashlee Simpson lip-synched on "SNL." And she's STILL waiting to recover from that one!
FEBRUARY 2012
+ M.I.A. flips the bird at the Super Bowl: Not since Justin Timberlake accidentally exposed Janet Jackson's boob (aka Nipplegate 2004) has there been such a controversy at the Super Bowl. Leave it to M.I.A. to get that party started again. During her 2012 Bowl performance, M.I.A. thought it would be a good idea to flip off the million-plus viewers watching from home. Just for fun... and we still have no clue why.
+ Whitney Houston passes away: Whitney Houston, the multiplatinum pop/R&B singer with a vocal prowess that will forever remain in a league of its own, died on Feb. 11. She was 48 years old.
+ First Blue Ivy photos are revealed!: Sure, we were excited about the birth of Blue Ivy in January, but the real fun began when the first photos of hip-hop's baby princess were revealed in February. Instead of going the traditional route (aka Us Weekly), Bey and Jay created a brand-new Tumblr, Helloblueivycarter.tumblr.com, to debut images of their baby girl. Because they are THE BEST!

MAY 2012
+ MCA passes away: Adam Yauch, best known as MCA of the Beastie Boys, lost his battle with cancer. He was 47 years old.
+ Against Me!'s Tom Gabel comes out as Laura Jean Grace: Against Me! lead singer Tom Gabel made the courageous decision to come out as transgender and to openly transition into life as Laura Jane Grace. Check out what's in Laura's closet on MTV's "House Of Style."
+ Disco legend Donna Summer dies: Donna Summer passed away on May 17 after a long battle with cancer. She was 63 years old.
JUNE 2012
+ The Flaming Lips break Guinness World Record for most concerts in 24 hours: Legendary rockers The Flaming Lips made history (and broke the Guinness World Record!) for the most concerts performed in multiple cities in a 24-hour time period. Traveling across the region aboard a tricked-out bus, the Lips treated fans to shortened sets in eight different cities. (Take THAT, Rihanna plane!)
JULY 2012
+ Snoop Dogg changes his name to Snoop Lion: Snoop Dogg changed his name to Snoop Lion... because a lion is way more ferocious than a pup, right? Plus, Diddy had no immediate plans to change his name, so Snoop must've known we were getting bored!
+ Frank Ocean comes out: In anticipation of his now Grammy-nominated R&B Channel Orange debut, Frank Ocean courageously took to his personal Tumblr to reveal personal details about his sexuality. Beyoncé was so impressed, she even wrote a poem about it.
AUGUST 2012
+ Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger get engaged: In what's perhaps the most shocking "we're dating!" story of the century year, Avril Lavigne and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger not only came out as a couple, but also got engaged! Once the news broke, Avril flaunted her boulder of an engagement ring, covered her soon-to-be hubby's hit song "How You Remind Me," and most importantly, became one half of the best couples' name ever: CHAVRIL, y'all.
+ Miley Cyrus chops off her hair: Miley Cyrus went from an elegant golden-haired beauty to a fierce chick with a pixie cut practically overnight. And obviously we LOVED IT (see: her stunning Gwen Stefani lewk). Miley loved her new short locks so much, that she's gone even shorter since.
+ The Spice Girls reunite: Sure, the 2012 Olympics were an epic two-week extravaganza of us being jealous of peeps who are way more fit than us, but you know what we enjoyed the most? Nope, it wasn't men's water polo. It was the Spice Girls reunion! The ladies took the stage at the 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony where they performed flawless renditions of hits like "Wannabe" and "Spice Up Your Life," almost as if they hadn't spent any time apart at all.
+ Kimye starts to become a thing: Aside from being unbearably hot, August signified the blossoming relationship between Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. Fondly dubbed Kimye, August yielded the now famous shot of Kim and Kanye sweating zip-lining through the Mexican jungle, and the gratuitous "we're snuggling in bed, be jealous of us!" photo. Potential wedding bells in the near future? Survey says YES! (Third time's a charm, Kimmy!)
+ Aaliyah returns via Drake, and it's weird: Was Drake officially allowed to do it? Did Timbaland really disapprove? The deets are still kinda hazy, but amid a sea of controversy, Drake released Aaliyah's posthumous record "Enough Said."
SEPTEMBER 2012
+ Jay-Z performs a whopping eight shows to inaugurate Brooklyn's Barclays Center: To properly inaugurate Brooklyn's Barclays Center (or, as we like to call it, "The House That Hov Built"), Jay-Z performed a ridiculous eight shows in eight nights. And no two shows were the same, either -- Jay brought out Big Daddy Kane on opening night, and Queen Beyoncé even made a cameo at Jay's final show. And speaking of his final show, let us not forget that Jay rode the subway to get there. #Thebest.
+ Demi Lovato and Britney Spears judge on "The X Factor": After much anticipation, it was announced that newcomer Demi Lovato and pop star vet Britney Spears would be "The X Factor" Season 2 judges. Along with L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell, Demi and Brit mentored their contestants, and occasionally almost made out with their co-judges.
+ Lady Gaga's supposed "weight gain" causes a body revolution Twitter movement: For some weird reason, the world thought it necessary to start calling Lady Gaga "fat" when she clearly wasn't. Naturally, Gaga didn't take chatter of her weight gain lying down, and retaliated not only by wearing an ironic oven mitt ensemble, but by launching her Body Revolution Movement.
+ Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose reveal their baby bump at the 2012 MTV VMAs: Maybe wasn't quite on par with Beyoncé's baby bump reveal, but it was pretty damn close! Expecting parents, Wiz Khalifa, and Amber Rose, took to the 2012 VMA carpet to give fans a first look at Amber's growing baby bump.
+ Chris Brown and Rihanna reunite, and we catch them kissing at the VMAs: Rihanna and Chris Brown may think it's "Nobody's Business," but it kinda BECOMES our biz if the unconfirmed couple gets caught smooching in public at the 2012 MTV VMAs. Just sayin'.
OCTOBER 2012
+ Taylor Swift goes dubstep on "I Knew You Were Trouble": "Country Cutie Goes Dubstep" is certainly one headline we never thought we'd write, but turns out Taylor Swift's ability to span the genres is just as agile as her ability to date across the ages! (BURN!) Just when you thought she was all "I only wear girlie dresses while biking around Paris," Taylor up and throws a dubstep chorus in her smash "I Knew You Were Trouble." And then tops it off with a grimy, gritty "We Found Love"-esque video to drive the point home.
+ Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong enters rehab: After an onstage meltdown at the iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas, Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong confirmed he would head to rehab facility to deal with unspecified substance issues.
+ Adele has her baby: Adele may have won a bajillion Grammys and topped every single chart ever made in 2012, but we bet the achievement she's most proud of is her brand-new son with with boyfriend Simon Konecki. And no, despite tons of rumors, Adele and Simon are still not married, so please stop asking.
+ Psy plays to 80,000 fans in Korea: Psy, otherwise known as the king of "Gangnam Style," otherwise known as that guy who now has more than 1 BILLION views, played a free show to 80,000 psyched fans at Korea's Seoul City Hall.
+ Taylor Swift's Red sells 2 million copies in its first week: Slow album sales, who? In a declining music biz market, "Taylor Swift beat the odds and sold an unprecedented 2 million copies of her album Red. "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," "Begin Again," and "I Knew You Were Trouble" were among the album's standout tracks.
+ The Foo Fighters announce they're going on hiatus, then both Dave Grohl and Nick Oliveri rejoin Queens Of The Stone Age: During the Foo Fighters' set at the Global Citizen Festival, frontman Dave Grohl confirmed that although the band was "definitely not breaking up," they would still be taking an extended hiatus. Later, Grohl announced that he would resume his post as drummer in Queens Of The Stone Age.
NOVEMBER 2012
+ Miley Cyrus gets engaged: At just 19 years old, Miley Cyrus announced her engagement to actor and should-be-male-model Liam Hemsworth. Her ring is MASSIVE.
+ Jelena kinda breaks up: While we still can't confirm the status of their relationship, November yielded rumor upon rumor that Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez (Jelena) had called it quits. Then we started hearing all kinds of things, like Justin and Selena had partied together after the American Music Awards, etc. (Of course we can't blame Selena for not trusting Justin after seeing him ogle a gaggle of Victoria's Secret models.) We're still not sure what's up, but we're rooting for you, Jel!
+ Rihanna's chaotic 777 tour launches: Note to Rihanna: If you invite a crew of journalists to come aboard your private plane and tour around the world with you, maybe pop out and say hello more than once? As you've probably already read on Twitter, chaos, anger, and delirium set in during Rih's now infamous "777" Tour. But at least Rihanna was flying in comfort? Yeah, that doesn't really help things.
+ Rihanna earns her first No. 1 album with Unapologetic: As crazy as it sounds, it wasn't until she released her seventh studio album, Unapologetic, that Rihanna finally landed a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 chart. That said, how could an album featuring "Diamonds" not go to No. 1 immediately?
+ Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey feud on "American Idol": Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey went all crazy diva on the set of "American Idol." We thought a former judge, Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler, would emerge unscathed, but even he couldn't escape Nicki's ire. While Obama thinks Nicki and Mariah will work it out (that's right, we said OBAMA), we'll just have to wait and see if the beef has simmered when Season 12 premieres on Jan. 16.
DECEMBER 2012
+ HAYLOR HAPPENS!: We guess if Taylor Swift can't date a Kennedy, the next best option is to date a member of One Direction. (They're practically British royalty, no?) Haylor, otherwise known as the rapidly blossoming romance between Taylor Swift and One Direction's Harry Styles, is officially in full swing (or, if you wanna get technical, in full "Dirty Dancing" lift). Because if you can survive an aggro bird attack together, then you know you're on the path toward true love.
And there you have it, guys! The best, saddest, weirdest, the most "OMG" moments of 2012. Beat that, 2013.
