Laura Mvula MIGHT do a better job of singing you to sleep than your own mother.Â
Apparently it's not enough that 25-year-old songstress Laura Mvula channels the jazzy, pop, and gospel vibes of Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, but um, hello, SHE'S BRITISH! (Find me a living, breathing American who wouldn't do ANYTHING for that accent, and we'll call them a liar.) And did we mention the Birmingham soul singer-songwriter is rocking what we believe to be the best eyeliner/lashes situation in the makeup game right now? Like, 24/7 magically applied to PERFECTION.

Classically trained at the Birmingham Conservatoire (fancy!), Laura is someone who you might say "wears many hats." Not only is Laura the Director of the Lichfield Community Gospel Choir, but she plays in a six-piece-band with her sister Dionne and brother James, came in fourth on the U.K.'s prestigious BBC Sound Of 2013 poll, AND snagged a coveted BRIT Award nomination. Uh, sleep? What's that??
Nowadays, Laura's focused on her full-length disc, Sing To The Moon, which was released in the U.K. this past March. And surprise, surprise, it shot straight into the Top Ten. Get to know Laura better on Sing To The Moon's first single, "Green Garden," which combines Laura's warm, soothing vocals with the hearty and organic "stomp-clap" vibe of Adele's "Rolling In The Deep." Further down is "She," a soft, lilting, and slow-building ballad, which shows a more vulnerable side to Mvula with its lush, multi-part harmonies. A word of advice to everyone who's NOT Laura Mvula right now? You might wanna consider STEPPING YOUR GAME UP. Pronto.
