Massive Entertainment says companion app for upcoming next-gen game will offer a "whole new experience" for players.
The second-screen experience for upcoming next-generation Tom Clancy game The Division will be "really meaningful," Massive Entertainment game director Ryan Bernard has said.
"We are creating a second-screen experience that will be really meaningful for the game," Bernard told Xbox Wire. "It will be a whole new experience for the group, through simultaneous and asymmetric gameplay between the mobile device and the console/PC game."
Explaining some of the functionality, Bernard said those playing through the app will be able to "seamlessly" join a game anywhere they want, as they control a drone. While playing as the drone, players will see the scene from a bird's eye view and are able to provide tactical support for teammates.
The Division is currently in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game is powered by the Snowdrop Engine and will be released in fall 2014. For more on the game's second-screen functionality, check out the trailer below.
