NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)–There’s room for everyone on the good list of the ESB! The Empire State Building (ESB) announced plans to treat every day as a holiday as it celebrates the 20th anniversary of New Line Cinema’s holiday classic “Elf” with special tower lighting, movie screenings and themed décor at the Observatory through the holidays. The beloved film, which was released in 2003, features Buddy the Elf, who travels from the North Pole to New York City to meet his father in his office in the Empire State Building.
“The Empire State Building plays a pivotal role in hundreds of movies and television shows, and ‘Elf’ has become a famous classic,” said Jean-Yves Ghazi, president of the Empire State Building Observatory. “Now, our guests can follow in the footsteps of Buddy the Elf in a special holiday experience that brings his adventures to life in the very place where the movie was shot.”
Celebrations for the special anniversary include:
- Holiday cheer: In partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery, “Elf” will take over the Observatory with themed decoration in the building’s lobby on Fifth Avenue and in its famous Observatory on the 86th floor. The windows of the iconic hall on Fifth Avenue will depict snowy scenes of Buddy the Elf and his friends as he travels from the North Pole to the “World’s Most Famous Building.” The enticing “Elf”-themed window will display a visual spectacle for visitors through Jan. 1 and feature a series of “Elf”-inspired products that capture the magic and joy of the film. Guests can also pose with a life-size version of Buddy the Elf in an “Elf”-themed corner at the building’s iconic 86th-floor Observatory through Nov. 10.
- Anniversary Screenings: Fans can purchase a special ticket to see “Elf” at one of four screenings on the Observatory’s 80th floor on Sundays, Dec. 3, 10 and 17. Tickets include Christmas-themed drinks and snacks, and full access to the ESB’s second-floor museum and the 86th-floor Observatory. For more information on tickets, click here.
