This year’s LGBTQ-friendly GaymerX2 event will be the last for the foreseeable future

This year's LGBTQ-friendly convention, GaymerX2, will be the last for the foreseeable future due to a number of issues, including budget concerns. Organizers announced the news today in a series of tweets, going on to thank fans for their support, and promising an "amazing" show this year to go out on.

"Based on feedback that we’ve gotten, the new focus towards diversity in the industry, and budget, GaymerX2 will be the final year for the con," organizers said. "This year is gonna be super awesome and we’re going to make it AMAZING for you and anyone who attends, so try to come out if you can!"

"We love you and we wouldn’t have been able to make this convention possible without all your support and love," they added.

GaymerX organizers did not rule out holding other similar events in the future, but stopped short of announcing any specific plans.

"That’s not to say that we may not do other events again in the future, but we’re asking so much out of our volunteers for the past two years," they said. "The size of our event and the amount of money we were losing to put it on became too much of a burden to keep at this pace."

"But the dream of creating a better world for queer geeks will live on until there is true equality and we ask you to keep fighting the fight."

This year's three-day event, funded through Kickstarter and to be held July 11-13 in San Francisco, will focus on celebrating diversity and inclusivity in gaming and will feature a range of panels and talks with developers and LGBTQ leaders. Speakers this year include veteran BioWare writer David Gaider, Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian, and writer Mattie Brice. Musicians Virt, 2Mello, and Aethernaut will perform at the event.
