Thor: Love And Thunder Trailer Breakdown — All The Details And Clues You May Have Missed

Thor 4 is on the way. Here's what Thor, Korg, The Guardians, and a few new faces have been up to.

The next MCU movie on the docket might be Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Moon Knight may be the thing that is currently happening every week on Disney+, but the marketing campaigns must keep on, you know, marketing. So this morning saw the debut of our first ever teaser for the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, directed by Taika Waititi.

To say people are excited about Love and Thunder is probably an understatement--it has been one of the most anticipated MCU Phase 4 releases since its announcement back at Comic-Con 2019 and for good reason. Not only is Waititi's Ragnarok one of the most beloved MCU movies, the roster of characters making comebacks (or debuting for the first time in new roles) is pretty staggering. The Guardians of the Galaxy are here, Korg is here, Jane Foster is returning but this time as Thor herself, and Christian Bale is making his MCU debut as Gor the God Butcher.

There's a lot going on, even for a 90-second teaser.

So, with that in mind, we've combed through and found these 12 details you won't want to miss as you prep for Love and Thunder's release on July 8.

1. Thor is finding himself

Some time has obviously passed since we last saw Thor in Endgame--not only has he found the time to be extremely nostalgic about his childhood and life (check out that retro costume in the few seconds of the opening here) but he's also found the time to exercise and do some serious soul searching. "I need to find out exactly who I am."

This also, apparently, involves planting Stormbreaker like a tree somewhere--though that doesn't last forever, it would seem. He still has it later in the trailer.

2. Strongest Avenger

The running gag continues--Thor can be seen wearing a "Strongest Avenger" trucker cap while exercising.

3. With the Guardians

If it wasn't already entirely obvious that Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy were going to be teaming up (they left together after Endgame, afterall) we get our first look at most of the team here, along with some ornately dressed blue humanoids on what looks like a war-torn planet.

4. Hey, it's Korg!

Everyone's favorite rock monster, Korg, makes his triumphant return from his brief cameo back in Endgame. Apparently he left New Asgard with his buddy--and got a new look for himself. Miek is currently MIA.

5. New Asgard

Tech in New Asgard has apparently advanced since we were here last, now we have some clearly god-like transportation in the way of monster horse drawn longboats that fly.

6. Our Flag Means Thor

Thor spends some time with some alien pirates--apparently Taika Waititi got a taste for directing on the high seas with his HBO Max TV show, Our Flag Means Death.

7. Zeus

The Asgardians aren't the only gods in the Marvel universe. We never see his face here but we do get a pointed back shot of Marvel's take on Zeus (another god of thunder) in what is likely a version of Mt. Olympus (in the comics, it's a pocket dimension similar to Ta-Lo called Olympus). Shortly before this shot we see Thor using Stormbreaker to open the bifrost, so ending up here likely wasn't a mistake.

8. Remember what I told you

While it seems like the Guardians won't be sticking around with Thor and Korg for very long, Quill seems to have (at least attempted to) impart some wisdom onto Thor before ditching them. Whether or not that wisdom actually amounts to lessons learned, however, is another question.

9. King Valkyrie

Back on Earth, Valkyrie seems a little less than enthusiastic about her new role as king, which apparently involves a lot more bureaucratic meetings than adventuring.

10. No Gamora

Here's your reminder that Gamora is currently MIA after Endgame and finding her is part of the Guardian's new mission. That's why she isn't part of the group shot of Guardians.

11. The Mighty Thor

Our big reveal moment of the teaser comes at the very end with a shot of the apparently reforged Mjolnir (remember it was shattered back in Ragnarok) flying into the hand of none other than Jane Foster, now in full Thor regalia. In the comics, Jane picked up the hammer and became Thor when she was fighting against terminal cancer. It's not clear what led up to the events that apparently sent her to space and gave her Thor powers here in the MCU, but that will likely be explored in the movie.

12. Where is Gor?

There's one notable absence in the teaser as far as characters that have been announced for the film and that is Christian Bale's Gor the God Butcher, who is set to be the movie's biggest villain and chief threat--after all, his name is pretty self explanatory in terms of his job and role in the comics. We have yet to get a look at him in the MCU, however, so it's probably best not to assume anything just yet.
