Titanfall dev: “So many games retread old ground”

Respawn producer Drew McCoy says upcoming online shooter will break the multiplayer shooter mold.

Respawn Entertainment's upcoming first-person shooter Titanfall aims to break new ground in the multiplayer shooter space, according to producer Drew McCoy.

In a new behind-the-scenes video published today, McCoy and other developers discussed what they believe will set Titanfall apart from the pack.

"When we started on Titanfall, we had a couple main goals we really wanted to achieve. First and foremost, we want something fun," McCoy said. "There's so many games now that are just retreading old ground. We really wanted to do something that was so fun and unique that we couldn't put it down ourselves."

Titanfall launches in spring 2014 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. The game pits Titans against Pilots, and though it doesn't have a single-player mode in the traditional sense, the studio is attempting to give the game a "single-player-feeling world" that is "compelling and relatable."

The game was built by Call of Duty co-creators Jason West and Vince Zampella, as well as a host of former Infinity Ward developers, but is "not gunning for Call of Duty," according to Zampella.
