TOYCOLLECTR marks the return of the print-based, collector-focused toy magazine

The march towards the new periodical launches today! First issue due late summer 2022!

Richmond, TX, February 17, 2022 — From the ashes of Lee’s, Tomart’s and ToyFare before it, comes TOYCOLLECTR — a new bi-monthly print magazine aimed at collectors’ desire for behind-the-curtain peeks and deeper dives into the world of collectible action figures past and present. The new magazine is the brainchild of Blake Wright, professional journalist, author of the acclaimed Toys That Time Forgot book series and long-time toy history enthusiast. The ultimate goal of the magazine is not unlike that of Wright’s book series — to tell stories collectors have never heard before, and show them images they have likely never seen before.

“Toy history is such a rich mine to tap. I discovered while writing the book series that there are a ton of stories yet to be told about many of the famous toy lines we all grew up with,” explained Wright. “Walking down the action figure aisle at your favorite department store today feels like being transported back to the mid-1980s, with new products from classic lines such as Masters of the Universe, Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Transformers, GI Joe and more. With nostalgia running high, it feels like the right time get these stories out to the masses.”

Most of the classic collector-focused toy/figure magazines have been out of business for over a decade, affected by the competition of a glut of toy news websites on the internet. These sites offered the latest news and supporting images with no waiting. Ten years later, the internet has changed. Many of those speciality toy sites are gone and those that remain have turned to social media channels to spread the word of the latest releases. Toy companies too have become reliant on social media for news dissemination, leaving all of them at the mercy of ever-changing algorithms that offer the messenger zero control over who sees it.

Joining Wright is a list of contributors that reads like a who’s who of the internet toy space. Confirmed TOYCOLLECTR contributors include noted toy historian Mark Bellomo, Daniel Pickett from Action Figure Insider, well-known Star Wars collector Gus Lopez, Dan Larson from Toy Galaxy, Engineering An Empire co-author Stephen Ward, and “Pixel” Dan Eardley among others.

The official website www.toycollectr.com is now live for readers to sign up for the TOYCOLLECTR newsletter that will highlight progress leading up to the first issue release, and later, instructions on securing a subscription. Readers can also follow TOYCOLLECTR via its official social media channels on Facebook, Instagram and more for updates and special features.
