Wale pays tribute to Washington, D.C. in his new video, "Love Hate Thing."
Wale might be a part of the opulent Untouchable Maybach Music Empire (M-M-M-M-M-M-M-Maybach Music), but he DOES know how to take his baller status down a notch (see: "Lotus Flower Bomb" featuring Miguel). And speaking of looking smooth and being a softie, now you can watch the Washington, D.C. rhymer paying homage to his home city in his "Love Hate Thing" video, the second single from his just-released album, The Gifted.

In the Sarah McColgan-helmed video, a dressed-to-the-nines Wale joins a slick backing band (including crooner Sam Dew) on a rooftop. As the dapper "Bad" rhymer rocks the party, we cut to scenes of Wale strolling through the D.C. streets where he grew up, thus thanking his hometown for making him who he is.
Visually juxtaposing the rapper's rough upbringing with him reaching the highest plateaus of success (which apparently comes with fine whiskey and total dimes), it's not hard to understand the video's "love/hate" concept. "My affinity grows as the city gets cold/ As you reaching your goals, you gon' meet you some foes," rhymes Wale. Translation: Even if you manage to overcome a rough upbringing, you might still have to watch out for "foes" -- fame doesn't necessarily equal safety. But we're not too worried about Wale -- anyone who looks that nice in a suit is doing just FINE as far as we're concerned.
