Katy Perry killed her performance of "Wide Awake" at the Billboard Music Awards this weekend, and today we're treated to a brand new lyric video for the tune as well. But, it's Katy Perry, guys -- did you really expect her to release a simple lyric video with fancy words floating around the screen? Nope. In fact, Katy's lyric video is more like a virtual biography documenting the last 21 months of her Teenage Dream journey while also marking the end of an era.

"Wide Awake" was written for Katy's forthcoming "Part Of Me 3-D" film, and it's an emotional, mid-tempo ballad that speaks to Katy's past experiences with life and love. The entire video is made up of screen shots of Katy's most important Facebook wall updates -- no, but it's actually cool. She revisits the very first time she posted a status update about her new album Teenage Dream, a post about her new single "California Gurls" and also that one random time she met Mark Zuckerberg (?). While some might confuse Katy's new video with an homage to Facebook, we actually think it's a clever and emotional way to recall her past successes and offer fans some closure on this chapter of the Katy Perry journey. Is it way too cheesy to say, "We can't wait to see what comes next?" Because we literally cannot wait to see what comes next.
