Watch Tegan and Sara perform live at Boston's Brighton Music Hall!

Indie-pop duo Tegan and Sara have had quite a month. Well, actually, we should say "decade-and-a-half" (they've been recording music together since 1999). Following two new singles, "Closer" and "I'm Not Your Hero," the twin sisters recently released what is probably their poppiest record to date (and their seventh studio album), Heartthrob. Featuring a whole new set of sparkling, synthy, yearning, burning tracks, Heartthrob harkens back to the sisters' earlier work (they've always kinda had a penchant for writing about heartbreak and relationship rifts), but this time, their songs are lusher, meatier, and more radio-friendly than ever. Last Sunday we managed to get "closer" to Tegan and Sara (ugh, had to) with a performance for MTV’s Artist to Watch Live at Boston's Brighton Music Hall. Check it out below!

Playing songs like their single "Closer," Love They Say," and the slow-burning "I Was a Fool," Tegan and Sara spent their performance bathed in soft purple and red lights, switching off from guitar to the keys as devoted fans mouthed lyrics back to them. Suffice it to say, Tegan and Sara have come a long way since their all-acoustic So Jealous days, embracing pop radio like pros.
